Action and Adventure When a Teen Guy Finds Excalibur!
The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp by Rick YanceyMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Alfred Kropp is a large (very large) lump of a fifteen-year-old orphaned boy who lives with a foster family, is tutored in math by a smart and pretty girl who barely notices his existence, isn't at all popular in school, and wonders what--if anything at all--will become of him. How about he turns out to be the direct descendant of Lancelot, knight of Arthur's Round Table, and heir to the powerful magic of the sword Excalibur? This page-turner isn't for everybody, with its occasional very violent scenes and its male-dominated action. But then, it seems that Yancey has written his adventure story not for everybody but for that very special young guy who looks at a library shelf full of books and says,"There's nothing to read." Here's a place to start (just beware that the occasional villain is disemboweled or beheaded).

The Taker by J.M. SteeleMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Would you cheat on the SAT if you thought everything was riding on it? Carly Beils believes everything is; her future, her relationship with her boyfriend and her relationship with her parents. So, after bombing the SAT her first time around, she hires "the Taker" in a moment of weakness. Then she meets the boy next door who has some uncommon, effective ways of tutoring her and she learns way more than the value of "x" in this entertaining mystery adventure story that is about much more than just a test. Steele has a way of getting into the high school mind: the stresses, the cliques, the backstabbing, the temptations and the value of good morals and good friends. Enjoy :-)

Dark Flame by Alyson NoelMy rating: 2 of 5 stars
Maybe I'm just tired of non-human teen angst, but, to me, Ever just came across as whiny and dense. The only thing that impressed me about this book was the way she approached Roman in their final confrontation. That, I liked.
My opinion aside, this is a very popular series at our library. It is probably worth a try if you like supernatural romance/adventure/coming of age stories.

In Honor of National Poetry Month
I'm Going to the Library
by Jack Prelutsky.
I’m going to the library,
and moving very slow,
despite the fact that it’s a place
I’ve always liked to go.
But I’m not looking forward now
to being there at all,
and that is why I’m heading there
at practically a crawl.
and moving very slow,
despite the fact that it’s a place
I’ve always liked to go.
But I’m not looking forward now
to being there at all,
and that is why I’m heading there
at practically a crawl.
I’m going to the library,
and I’m a bit afraid.
It’s all because of one mistake
I’ve accidentally made.
I’m filled with trepidation
mixed with downright misery,
convinced that the librarian
is furious with me.
and I’m a bit afraid.
It’s all because of one mistake
I’ve accidentally made.
I’m filled with trepidation
mixed with downright misery,
convinced that the librarian
is furious with me.
I know that I’m in trouble,
so I’m in a frantic state.
I also know its all my fault,
and I deserve my fate.
I’m going to the library,
and shaking through and through—
the book I’m finally bringing back
is four years overdue.
so I’m in a frantic state.
I also know its all my fault,
and I deserve my fate.
I’m going to the library,
and shaking through and through—
the book I’m finally bringing back
is four years overdue.

Better save that. We'll need it for the autopsy.
